About

The association is named after Aïssa Bisker (1908-1978), an educator, poet and reformist from Bou Saada. He was one of the first founders of the local branch of the Association of Algerian Muslim Ulama in the early 1930s. It was set up to honour his work for young people. For a long time it was known as the "Aïssa Bisker Association for the Promotion of Children's Culture", and its president is his son Djamel Bisker. The Aïssa Bisker Centre runs workshops for children: music, choir, theatre in Arabic and French, drawing, painting and crafts. It also offers French and English lessons and a library that encourages reading. The association celebrates World Children's Day every year (1 June). In 2008 it marked the centenary of Aïssa Bisker's birth. On 3 July 2026, under the name Aïssa Bisker Association for Culture and Arts, it held a cultural and artistic evening in Bou Saada. The programme included theatre, singing, Quran recitation and an exhibition about the town's leading figures in education, with paintings by artist Toufik Lebcir.
